The Terrorism Act 2000 and Terrorism Act 2006 create serious speech-related offences concerning the encouragement, glorification, and dissemination of terrorist content.
TA 2006, s.1 — Encouragement of Terrorism
Makes it an offence to publish statements that directly or indirectly encourage terrorism, including statements that glorify the commission or preparation of terrorist acts. Penalty: up to 15 years.
TA 2006, s.2 — Dissemination of Terrorist Publications
Offence of distributing or circulating terrorist publications, including online sharing. Penalty: up to 15 years.
TA 2000, s.12 — Support for Proscribed Organisations
Inviting support for a proscribed organisation, including through reckless expression of support. Penalty: up to 14 years.
